Coffee, ice-cream and good people at Käpyläs visor kiosk

Visor kiosk

During the summer an old visor kiosk turns into the heart of Käpylä. The kiosk is one of the 24 functional style kiosks that were designed in 1930’s to serve people in popular parks and along tram routes.

A couple of years ago this abandoned kiosk located at the end of the tram line number 1 got a brand new life when easygoing hippies turned it into a coffee kiosk where you get good espresso coffee instead of the typical filter coffee. I love the place: the coffee is really good, ice-cream fresh and sweet but above all – the people are superb! They play music from Finnish tango to punk, speak local slang and let you pay the next time if you don’t happen to have the right amount of cash. Twice in a month there is a flee market by the kiosk, and time to time other happenings. It is close by a playground (read perfect with kids) and a beautiful green area which makes it a lovely place to hang around for long and meet new people. It really is a place to be in!

  1. How wonderful to see the kiosk put to good use. I like their attitude to payment. That is good customer service.
