Last Sunday was perfect – there were sun, food and smiles all over the city! I took my camera and went for a walk with my baby sleeping in the trolly to enjoy the atmosphere of the 16th Restaurant Day.
Restaurant Day, organized four times a year, is a worldwide food carnival when anyone can set up a restaurant or a café for a day. It can happen anywhere: at your home, at the office, on a street corner, in your garden or inner courtyard, at a park, or on the beach. No licenses of hygiene are asked. All you need is some imagination, time and right attitude to create your own concept, sign up on the Restaurant Day web page, and that’s all! It is like being among friends when everything is based on trust (you don’t ask any hygiene licenses from your friends or grandma and you still eat their cookings). Restaurant Day was organized for the very first time here in Helsinki in May 2011. In the first event 45 restaurants took part. In May 2014 there were 2724 restaurants in 35 countries. In Helsinki only there has been once around 800 one day pop-up restaurants! In fact the main parks – Esplanadi, Ruttopuisto and Bear Park – are always packed. I started my walk from the Bear Park (Karhupuisto) and ended it in the Esplanadi Park. Here are some pics from the road. This tasty liquorice muffin was all I got.
